A City that blends the hometown atmosphere with a progressive, modern outlook, while Main Street retains the nostalgic charm of yesteryear, and high tech businesses flourish throughout the city. The rich heritage of values and traditions found in our city forms the basis for a thriving modern community. Historic Downtown Louisville is the heart of the City where 100-year old wooden buildings line Main and Front Streets. A new 32,500 sq. ft. library is planned to open in July 2006.

City Council / Mayor

One could say that coal miners built the city of Louisville. In 1877 when the Welch Mine opened in Louisville, local landowner Louis Nawatny platted his land and named the soon-to-be town for himself. The Town of Louisville was incorporated in 1882. The Miners Memorial Statue in front of City Hall symbolizes these early settlers to Louisville.
