Arvada was founded as a gold mining town during the Colorado Gold Rush in the 1850s. Officially founded in 1870 and incorporated in 1904, Arvada grew slowly until the 1950s, when its population boomed from a mere 2,000 to over 20,000. Since then it has become well connected with Denver and is primarily a bedroom suburb.
